Reinvent Albany Joins Amicus Brief for Department of Corrections Case
Reinvent Albany and the New York Open Government Coalition filed an amicus brief with an NYS appeals court last week in Appellate Advocates v. New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS). Michael Higgins at the University at Buffalo’s Civil Rights and Transparency Clinic served as counsel.
The NYS DOCCS has argued that it does not need to release drafts of certain training documents in response to FOIL requests. In the brief, we argue that access to agency law is essential to a functioning democracy, and outline how FOIL applies to agency’s working law.
