Reinvent Albany Supports NYC CFB Approval of New Regulations on Public Matching Funds
Reinvent Albany supports the New York City Campaign Finance Board’s approval of new regulations at today’s meeting.
The 2021 campaign presented a number of new challenges related to changes in technology and coordination between campaigns and independent expenditure committees. These new regulations will require better compliance from campaigns and provide more clarity on the rules.
The regulations cover the following areas:
- Complaints
- Contributions
- Disclosures
- Expenditures
- Independent expenditures
- Public funds payments
- Registration and certification
- Training
- Transition and inauguration entities
We also thank the NYC CFB for their responsiveness to suggestions from government watchdogs about the regulations.
“NYC is the gold standard for public campaign finance, and it is thanks to the CFB’s integrity and professionalism that the system has worked so well for over 30 years,” said Tom Speaker, Legislative Director for Reinvent Albany. “We thank the CFB for approving these new regulations.”
We note that the new rules regarding CFB discretion on whether campaign contributions are eligible for a 8-1 public match will be in effect for the February 18, 2025 payout date and apply to filings due January 15th, 2025. For more information, please see the CFB’s Limits & Thresholds page.
