Seven Bills for a More Accountable NYS Government
As part of our advocacy for open, accountable New York State government, Reinvent Albany published and reissued memos of support for the following bills:
- A3615 (Simone) / S1027 (May) – Updates Open Meetings Law to require hybrid participation at public meetings and close loopholes. This is signed by over 30 groups.
- S2585 (Liu) – Expands definition of “public employee” to include court workers. Signed by Reinvent Albany, Citizens Union, Committee to Reform the State Constitution, Common Cause NY, League of Women Voters NYS, Sexual Harassment Working Group.
- S4859 (Hoylman-Sigal) – Protects the Commission on Judicial Conduct’s budget request and makes complaint process more transparent. Signed by Reinvent Albany, Citizens Union, Common Cause NY, League of Women Voters of NYS, NYPIRG, Scrutinize, Sexual Harassment Working Group.
- S4197 (Gounardes) / A6201 (Kelles) – Amends State Code of Ethics to explicitly prohibit harassment and discrimination. Signed by Reinvent Albany, Citizens Union, Committee to Reform the State Constitution, Common Cause NY, League of Women Voters NYS, Sexual Harassment Working Group.
- S5843 (Skoufis) / A2330 (McDonald) – Requires electronic filing of all lobbying filings. Signed by Reinvent Albany, Citizens Union. Common Cause NY, League of Women Voters NYS, NYC Bar Association, NYPIRG.
- S6253 (Skoufis) / A6741 (Simone) – Requires State Board of Elections to post sample ballots.
- A1194 (Solages) – Protects Interest on Lawyer Accounts (IOLA) from raids.
We urge the Legislature to pass these bills, and the Governor to sign them.
