Reinvent Albany in Council Testimony: Use Open Data to Measure Completion of Agency Reports; Webcast Debates
Reinvent Albany at Council Hearing Calls for Using Open Data to Measure Completion of Agency Required Reports
Also Supports Mandating Webcasting of Candidate Debates
Reinvent Albany testified today the City Council should create a simple online dataset to measure whether agencies are completing the hundreds of reports required by city’s laws. The Council is considering a bill which would require the Department of Records Information Services (DORIS) maintain an online “list”, and notify agencies when reports are due. DORIS currently maintains an online Government Publications portal which includes thousands of government reports.
Reinvent Albany also recommended the Council mandate webcasting of candidate debates as a modern, inexpensive and widely accessible means of engaging the public. The Council is instead considering a bill expanding television broadcasting of the debates.
