Reinvent Albany Joins Letter Calling for Greater Transparency in NYC Council Redistricting Process
Reinvent Albany joined Citizens Union and other advocacy groups in a letter to the NYC Districting Commission urging them to make their mapping discussions and decisions public. The lack of transparency during mapping deliberations “erodes the public trust in the process” and leads New Yorkers to question how and why City Council redistricting lines are drawn. The signers also wrote that “holding mapping deliberations in public clarifies mapmakers’ intentions, prompts healthy dialogue between commissioners, and reduces the potential power of outside influences on the process.”
