Support for Eight Bills Bolstering NY Elections, Transparency

     

As part of our advocacy for open, accountable New York government, Reinvent Albany reissued memos of support for the following bills:

  • S9171 (Cooney) / A10281 (Solages) Requires the public posting of certain contracts which are otherwise subject to the approval of the state comptroller. This bill was voted out of Senate Procurement and into Senate Finance, and out of Assembly GovOps and into Assembly Ways and Means.
  • S8671-A (Hoylman-Sigal) / A9621-A (McDonald) Requires agencies to submit FOIL logs to the Committee on Open Government. This bill is supported by Reinvent Albany, Citizens Union, Common Cause NY, League of Women Voters of New York State, NYPIRG, and Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. This bill was amended and is on third reading in the Assembly.
  • S160-A (Hoylman-Sigal) / A712-A (Weprin) Authorizes the use of cameras in New York State’s appellate and trial courts. This bill passed the Senate and is in Assembly Judiciary.
  • A7185 (Lavine) / S9635 (Jackson) – Amends Article VII of the NYS Constitution to give the Legislature equal powers to the Governor in the budget process. This was introduced in the Senate by Senator Jackson.
  • S2362 (Rivera) / A6542 (Carroll) – Requires disclosure of employer for campaign contributors. This bill is supported by Reinvent Albany, Citizens Union, Common Cause NY, and League of Women Voters of New York State. This bill is on the Senate Floor Calendar.
  • S6168 (Comrie) / A6764 (Cunningham) Requires better notice to voters who are purged or put on inactive status. This bill was voted out of Senate Elections and into Senate Finance.
  • S3353-A (Skoufis) / A2852-A (Zebrowski) Requires municipalities to maintain municipal websites. This bill was amended and is on third reading in the Assembly.
  • S9009 (Skoufis) / A10302 (McDonald) Requires electronic filing of all lobbying filings. This bill is supported by Reinvent Albany, Citizens Union, Common Cause NY, League of Women Voters of New York State, New York City Bar, and NYPIRG. This was introduced in the Assembly by AM McDonald.
