MTA-Funded Jobs at Risk in Every Tri-State Congressional District from Hochul Cancellation of Congestion Pricing

MTA Funded Jobs At Risk In Every Tri-State Congressional District

100k jobs will be lost from Hochul canceling congestion pricing

Governor Hochul’s cancellation of congestion pricing will cost companies in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut $12 billion in MTA contracts and upwards of 100,000 jobs in New York alone. A new analysis by Reinvent Albany shows where the ax is most likely to fall.

Our new interactive webpage includes 254 fact sheets that show the top 10 MTA vendors in each:

Due to Governor Hochul’s “pause” of the MTA’s congestion pricing program, more than $15 billion in capital investments, including $12 billion to private sector companies doing business with the MTA, is on hold and at least 87,600 jobs relating to MTA vendors in New York alone are at risk. See also our analysis showing that MTA workers doing in-house capital work would get $3 billion of the $15 billion congestion pricing is required to fund for the MTA’s 2020-2024 capital plan.

Over the last decade, the MTA has made $35 billion in payments across the tri-state area. This includes to companies that support the MTA’s capital projects such as engineering and construction firms, manufacturers and suppliers for buses and rail cars, and even the yellow tactile strips on station platforms.

Our webpage also includes maps covering MTA spending over the last decade on companies located in these political districts.
