Support for Four Bills Boosting NY Accountability and Transparency
As part of our advocacy for open, accountable New York government, Reinvent Albany urges the full Senate and Assembly to pass the following bills:
- Establishing commission to study COVID-19 pandemic response (A8053-A (González-Rojas) / S8168 (Salazar)) – This bill is supported by Reinvent Albany, Common Cause NY, Empire Center, the League of Women Voters of New York State, and NYPIRG.
- Disclosure of lobbying for appointed officials (S7883 (Gianaris) / A8618 (McDonald)) – This bill is supported by NYPIRG, Reinvent Albany, Citizens Union, Common Cause NY, and the League of Women Voters of New York State. This bill passed the Senate and is in Assembly Codes.
- Requiring electronic financial disclosures of legislative members and candidates (S3544 (Breslin) / A1560 (McDonald)) – This bill was moved to Assembly Rules. The bills need to be aligned but are nearly identical.
- Requiring municipalities to maintain municipal websites (S3353-A (Skoufis) / A2852-A (Zebrowski)) – This bill is on third reading in the Assembly and Senate.
We also thank the Senate and Assembly for passing the following bill:
- Allowing pre-registered voters to apply for an absentee ballot (A3250-A (Epstein) / S6735-A (May))
