Reinvent Albany Joins Statement Calling for Urgent Reform to NYS Campaign Finance Oversight

Reinvent Albany joined the New York City Bar Association, Brennan Center for Justice, Citizens Union, Common Cause, League of Women Voters NY, and New York Public Interest Research Group in a statement to call for eliminating the Chief Enforcement Counsel (“the CEC”) of the State Board of Elections, which is “designed for inaction.” These groups call on the Legislature to “establish a single campaign finance board to administer all campaign finance laws and further empower the board to enforce the laws.” If the Legislature does not create a new campaign finance board, the full report outlines ways in which the CEC’s framework should be reformed to facilitate meaningful and ethical oversight.
