Reinvent Albany joined Common Cause/NY, League of Women Voters of NYS, NYPIRG, and Citizens Union in a letter to Governor Hochul and legislative leaders, in response to reports that a special session may be called in the coming weeks to address salary increases for legislators. Our advocacy groups believe that any pay raises for legislators should include a ban or limit on outside income, similar to how Congress handles its outside income limitations. Given that Governor Hochul must call for a special session, we asked that she “include consideration of a ban on income earned through certain professions and a cap of up to 15% on certain permissible outside income from select professions in any proclamation calling for a special session addressing salaries and we urge both houses of the Legislature to pass such a measure.”
