The few examples of congestion pricing systems in the world have been implemented thanks to strong leadership and a willingness to innovate. It’s heartening to find those qualities applied to transportation and transit policy in New York today.
Congratulations to Governor Kathy Hochul and MTA CEO Janno Lieber and their staff on reaching the end of the lengthy federal review process for congestion pricing. Reinvent Albany also applauds the administration for remaining firm in the face of intense negativity toward the policy from parts of the public and some elected officials. We look forward to the Traffic Mobility Review Board’s finalization of pricing details – with a bare minimum of special exemptions – and deployment of congestion pricing hardware around New York City’s Central Business District.
