Support for Two Bills Strengthening NY Democracy and Correcting an Embarrassment

As part of our advocacy for a strong NY democracy, Reinvent Albany issued memos of support for the following bills:

  • A494-A (Epstein) / S6199-A (Myrie) – Requires candidates nominated for county committee to be notified by the NYC BOE. That this legislation even needs to exist is an embarrassment to New York State. This bill is on the Assembly Floor Calendar.
  • A3250-A (Epstein) / S6735-A (May) Allows pre-registered voters to apply for an absentee ballot.

We also reissued memos of support for the following bills:

  • A5613-B (Zebrowski) / S1726-A (Harckham) – Clarifies NYS Freedom of Information Law. This bill is supported by Reinvent Albany, Citizens Union, Common Cause/NY, the League of Women Voters of New York State, and NYPIRG. This bill is on the Assembly Floor Calendar.
  • S1571 (Gianaris) / A7739 (Simon) – Requires the ethics commission of the unified court system to post judges’ annual financial disclosures on the commission’s website. This bill is on the Senate Floor Calendar.
  • S5414 (Hoylman-Sigal) / A5366 (Bores) Authorizes Legislature to increase the number of NY Supreme Court justices. This bill is on the Senate and Assembly Floor Calendars.
  • S617 (Myrie) Mandates training for NY local elections commissioners and key staff. This bill is on the Senate Floor Calendar.

We urge the bills to be passed by the full Senate and Assembly.
