NYS Senate and Assembly Pass Major Transparency Bills for Sunshine Week

Legislature making great progress on FOIL during crisis in federal transparency

Reinvent Albany thanks the NYS Assembly for the following transparency bills during the past two weeks:

  • A1410-A (Rosenthal) Limits Commercial FOIL exemption. Passed Assembly.
  • A6707 (Solages) Requires information about contracts exempted from Comptroller oversight to be published. Passed Assembly.

We thank the Assembly for passing these bills and call on the Senate to do the same. The Assembly also passed a third FOIL bill that would strengthen FOIL attorneys’ fees.

We also thank the Senate for passing:

  • S3736 (Comrie)Increases transparency of grant and bond applications to the Public Authorities Control Board. Passed Senate.
  • S2437-A (Krueger) / A3929-B (Dinowitz) – Requires “paid for by” disclosures by influencers supporting campaigns. Passed Senate.

We urge the Assembly to pass these bills.

Finally, we thank both houses for passing S5843 (Skoufis) / A2330 (McDonald), which requires electronic filing of all lobbying filings. We urge the Governor to sign this bill.
