Support for Five Bills, Opposition to Two

As part of our advocacy for open, accountable government, Reinvent Albany issued the following new memos of opposition:

• S10639 (Gianaris) / A11557 (Walker) – Allows Legislature to write language for statewide ballot questions. This is a new group memo that Reinvent Albany joined, led by Citizens Union.
• S9586-A (Parker) / A10706 (Chandler-Waterman) – Requires two-person crews on every NYC subway train. On the Assembly Ways and Means committee agenda.

We are also issuing the following memos of support:

• S4197-A (Gounardes) / A6201-A (Kelles) – Amends State Code of Ethics to explicitly prohibit harassment and discrimination. This is a new group memo that Reinvent Albany joined, led by Harassment-Free New York.
• S1087 (Mayer) / A5056 (Jacobson) – Makes local elections commissioners full-time employees full-time employees of the board. Passed Senate; in Assembly Election Law committee.
• S2459 (Comrie) / A8569 (Braunstein) – Repeals 2019 changes to Public Authorities Control Board. On the Assembly Ways and Means committee agenda.

We urge the Legislature to pass these bills.

Finally, we urge Governor Hochul to sign the following bills, which passed both houses:

• S4857-C (Skoufis) / A463-B (Paulin) – Requires financial disclosure statements of candidates for office to be posted on the Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government website. 
• S3864-A (Gianaris) / A4674-A (Burdick) – Requires Office of Court Administration to issue report on publication of criminal court decisions.
